What is Microdermabrasion?

Thinking of getting microdermabrasion but not sure what it all means and what it can do for the health and look of your skin? Rejuve-Skin takes an in-depth look at microdermabrasion and the benefits of this non-invasive treatment.

History of Microdermabrasion

In 1985, two Italian doctors developed the world’s first microdermabrasion machine. Dr. Mattioli alongside Dr. Brutto invented the closed-loop system that abraded and resurfaced the skin. By the mid to late 1990s, the first microdermabrasion machine was introduced into America with impressive results. Today, there are many variations to this wonderful technique, that has transformed the appearance of the skin in countless women and men around the globe.

How Does it Work?

Microdermabrasion works by gently resurfacing the skin, at various depths. This promotes skin healing and health by simulating the underlying layer of new skin to grow while encouraging collagen production and restoring firmness. There are several systems now in use. One system uses a high-pressure flow of crystals to gently exfoliate and an air suction system to remove the top layers of the skin known (the stratum corneum). The second system uses a diamond tip to gently buff the top layers of the skin. This second system is the preferred system at Rejuve skin.

Microdermabrasion gently removes the top layer of the skin to reveal the younger, fresher epidermis. It is known to be a much less invasive procedure compared to chemical peeling and laser resurfacing while allowing for the same outstanding results.

Your Rejuve-Skin Specialist will advise on a custom treatment plan to ensure you have the results you are looking for. Results tend to last for up to 12months.

Many clients will immediately notice the appearance of the skin seem more radiant and bright while also being smooth to the touch. Microdermabrasion is wonderful for those clients looking to rejuvenate their skin and add more radiance. It’s also great for mild acne suffers or for those wanting to reduce the discoloration and superficial scarring caused by acne. Fine lines or wrinkles, age spots, pigmentation, large pores, blackheads and more, can be targeted using a microdermabrasion custom skin package.

Microdermabrasion vs Dermabrasion

What’s the difference between microdermabrasion and dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is an invasive and surgical procedure used for deep acne scarring and deep-set wrinkles and extensive scarring. This procedure is done under anaesthesia and typically performed by Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive gentle procedure that does not require anaesthesia. It’s a continuation of treatments that can help reduce the signs of aging, scarring, and the general appearance of the skin.
